LO1: Understand existing talk and radio music programmes.

 LO1: Task 1: Investigating a radio station 

 Synopsis/overview 


The radio station that I will be looking at is Sheffield Live, which is an independent/community radio station based with in Sheffield. There target is to have a radio show for every communities, neach and demographic within Sheffield. They are a no profit organisation. Their ethos is that Sheffield live is a radio station for the people by the people of Sheffield. The station is a has a heavy focus on social gain.   

 Programmes 


All of the presenters can easily be contacted on Sheffield Live and on other social networking site such as Facebook and Twitter.

 Africa beat 


This show is a two-hour weekly show that looks at old and new songs being produced within Africa. This is a good example of Sheffield Live catering for a neach group within Sheffield. The show also informs you about any band that fit in with the music they play and if there are any gigs that you could go to.

 Communities live 


Communities Live is one of the head lining radio shows on Sheffield live it’s on every day at 12pm-1pm. A different team of volunteers produces the show every time and they go over the local issues and national problem. They talk about the entire local music and art event with in Sheffield.

 Drop the funk Drop the bass 


DFDB looks at the underground music in the Garage, Grime, Drum and Bass, UK Funky, House and Bass. The show is in for two hours and is on every Sunday.


Peace in the Park 


The Peace in the Park Show will take you on a tour through the various independent music nights in Sheffield. Each separate show will be hosted by one of the cities premier music promoters and will give the chance for each promoter to showcase what their event is about.


 Genre 


The type of programmers broadcast on Sheffield is different type of entertainment, music and news. They cover a large amount of music throw the week going through many different genres of music. Each one of their shows is aimed at a very different type of people with very different tastes. Some of the shows are aimed at all residents of the Sheffield but most are aimed at a particle type of person, this can be the Asian community with in Sheffield to the Jamaican community who both have very different preferences but both are catered for. Some of the neach music they play in relation to Sheffield is RnB, Dub step, Hip-hop, AfroBeat & Ragga Soul.

Audience Profile


Sheffield Live's target audience is just the residents of Sheffield. It is Sheffield Live's radio shows' that have a specific demographics to which they are aimed at. They have that many shows on at Sheffield Live that there will be something for the listener to enjoy. Sheffield Live does not have a specific target audience except the citizens of Sheffield.    


 Production Process  

Sheffield live have there own studios from which they produce all of their show. They have all the equipment needed to make any type of radio show, such as microphones, computers, mixing boards and play servers. There are lots of people who use this equipment, they are all separated into there own little team who all work in different whys and have role delegated to members of the team, Such as director, host/presenter, produces and researchers. They will use software such as adobe audition and Q-base.


 Market Shares 

Sheffield live has around 11% of the city's  

listeners this is around 32,000 people a week. Sheffield live biggest competitor is Hallam FM; this is because they focus on the same audience. The look at south Yorkshire so the people of Sheffield fall under that, there biggest difference is that they do not look at the small demographics' with in Sheffield.
    














LO1 Task 2: Analysing a radio show 



Show information

The podcast that I will be looking at is Gamers Rule Radio. Gamers Rule Radio, a weekly, hourly show where they talk about all aspects of GAMING. During the show, they have a main topic, news, social media, and other aspects. The host is called William Adams, with his group of gaming friends. You can contact all of them on Facebook, Twitter and You Tube. They show is aired every Saturday, 11-12, 93.2 FM.

Running order 


The show starts of with a mo town/ indie  as an opening theme. Then a female voice says "Sheffield Live!, made in Sheffield, made by you" This is done to relax the listener. There is a second message from Sheffield Live "Do you like Sheffield live, why not become a friend of Sheffield     

DJs / Presenters 
There are 5 host of the radio show programmers 1 of which is female. All of the host originate from Sheffield and have a strong background in there topics of chose.
African Beats has one presenter who not even African, he is just really like the African style of music. Peace In The Park has a different presenter every week but it is always a promoter for bands that are linked to Sheffield. Community live has different host every time as it is volunteer who run it and it is a different set of volunteers every time, the volunteers are always from Sheffield.

Audience

All of the show will have a similar age range as they are all aimed at student in the Sheffield area, which is 18 - 24 year of age. but they all aim at different niches except from Community live which is more news focused. As the niches are based on a clutches style of music there will not be much of a gender specific radio show as ins aim is to open people mind to different cultures music
